The Growing List of People to Follow in the Graduate Programs at Purdue University

The Growing List of People to Follow in the Graduate Programs at Purdue UniversityThe Purdue Chemistry Faculty has expanded, expanding on the work of some of the best minds in the field of learning and research. The Department of Organic Chemistry at the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences at the University of Georgia is really growing, as professors are adding many more courses and areas of concentration. The courses that have been added are not just the usual college level classes that people get into, but will help students prepare for professional and career careers, and that should not be overlooked, as that is the real future of this great college. Many of the course offerings for the Organic Chemistry Department have been extensions of the research done by the faculty at Georgia Tech. You might have seen the Global Change course on CNN, about some new discovery from Harvard University. These are just a few examples of the course offerings that have been made available, a nd you can see the possibilities that come with adding many more disciplines to the Organic Chemistry Department. One of the newest additions to the course offerings has been the commitment to practical applications of the newest technology, in organic chemistry. Organic processes such as polymer chemistry, or the handling of organics, is becoming more important, as we learn more about the future of global warming, and pollution, and waste, and everything else that could be created. So it is necessary to understand how the applications of these types of science and technology will affect our world. When you add these types of experiences, the students will be better prepared for the future and will learn some of the tricks that make them truly great scientists, and they will take better care of the environment, all while gaining new understanding. The newest additions to the Purdue Chemistry Faculty, will not only allow these students to learn more about the latest trends in the lab, but they will be learning about some of the same things, at the graduate level, and beyond. With the addition of technology to the mix, there will be plenty of choices for students that will grow to be great scientists, as well as those that will take an interest in helping the Earth, and all of the people that are living on it. This means that the departments within the faculty are expanding and expanding the knowledge, and it is important that all of the information is in as many hands as possible. The Purdue University Chemists is expanding and will continue to expand, as the Department is so close to many of the Research Centers at Purdue. Many of the professionals that the professors have will be seeking employment, or else they will be working for the university, as they work with students to make sure that the courses are going to be teaching, and also as a part of the bigger picture. They also want to make sure that the students are getting an education, and that they are get ting the education they need, in order to be successful in the future. One of the greatest goals of the Chemistry Department at Purdue, is to make sure that every student gets the best possible education possible, when they leave, whether they are going to be entering the industry, or maybe not. The staff at the University is working hard, and with the newest additions, they are making sure that every single student has a chance to become a great scientist, and a great citizen. This is the future of organic chemistry, and this is what the faculty is working towards. One of the great things about the Chemist at Purdue is that they love what they do and will continue to do it for many years to come. They will help everyone from students, to government, to the student body of Purdue University, and they will always push the boundaries of the field, so that you, the person, that are going to have the most to gain from their life, and the life of everyone that they touch. I wish them luck, and I hope that you will join them in their quest.

Promote-able skills - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / Promote-able skills - Introvert Whisperer Promote-able skills Leadership skills will get you promoted faster and will position you for continued success along with job satisfaction. This a core fact that many people simply don’t realize, even if they have no intention of “being in charge”. What are the Leadership skills I’m talking about? I’m going to list the Leadership skills I outline in the Leadership training I do but I’m only going to discuss a few of them because I think they are the most important ones.   That doesn’t mean you get a pass on the others but I think it’s good to know where to start focusing your skill building. Leadership Skills Positive Committed to a result Influential (social) Takes responsibility Shows Initiative Deliberately gets Involved See’s what possible â€" thinks about Improvement Has a vision Communicates Relationship developer; reads people Motivates by engaging Takes responsibility â€" A person that is being responsible for things in the workplace is first and foremost accountable for their own work and results.   They will also expand to become responsible for the work and actions of others as they step up and seek to lead work efforts or projects.   Taking responsibility for your own results is huge because a lot of people look for reasons why they didn’t do something well rather than doing what it takes to ensure a great outcome.   Anyone who can’t be accountable for the outcome of his or her own work will never go anywhere professionally.   They let situations occur that turn them into victims rather than do everything they can.   The same mentality exists by being accountable for the work of others. Shows Initiative â€" This is defined as: An individuals action that begins a process, often done without direct managerial influence. Notice the key words here and that is “without direct managerial influence”.   In other words, you don’t need the boss to be telling you what to do all the time.   They also don’t want to be directing all the time anyway as they have other things that will make better use of their time.   Think of it like this: The CEO of your company isn’t waiting to be told what to do.   When a person takes initiative in the workplace I can promise you that almost no one does this and it will make you an easy, positive standout. Deliberately gets involved â€" Employees that step up to solve problems or take ownership of projects are signs of leadership.   Again, it’s fairly rare to see so it scores high in the hearts of minds of decision makers. Communicates â€" Communication is the weak spot in almost all groups and for most people.   Communicating is one of the easiest of all of these skills to do.   Decision makers love a free flow of information about work, business and projects rather than trying to extract it from the people who are doing the work but its how the majority of people operate.   If you communicate consistently and proactively you will be uppermost in the hearts and minds of management. Wheww!   I could spend hours talking about this stuff but I’ll stop here.   This is important information if you have any ambitions professionally. Get started now. Go to top Let me emphasize that Self-Promotion doesn’t have to be obnoxious to be effective.  But, if you don’t Self-Promote you, who will? Angle Bisector

Angle Bisector An angle bisector can be defined as the line segment which divides the given angle into two equal parts. If in a triangle there will be three angle bisectors. If we draw the angle bisectors in a triangle the intersection of the angle bisectors is called as the in-center of the triangle. Using the in-centre of a triangle we can draw the in-circle of a triangle. In-centre of the triangle is represented by the letter I.For example there is an angle that is angled ABC which makes an angle at B 80 degrees. Now the line BD is dividing the given angle into two equal parts such as angle ABD is 40 degrees and angle DBC is 40 degrees. Now BD can be called as the angular bisector of angle ABC. Following are the examples based on the concept of angle bisectors. Example 1:Given that angle ABC is given as 140 degrees, and BD is an angle bisector to then find out the angles after the bisector is divided the angle ABC. Solution:The given angle is ABC is 140 degrees now the angles made after the BD cuts the angle is angle ABD is 70 and DBC is 70 degrees. Example 2:Given that the angle is PQR is 70 degrees and QS is angle bisector find out the angles. Solution: - Given that PQR is 70 degrees now if QS cuts the angle then the angles made are PQS is 35 degrees and angle SQR is 35 degrees.

How to Sequence a Yin Yoga Class

How to Sequence a Yin Yoga Class The Optimal Sequencing for a Yin Yoga Session ChaptersWhat is Yin Yoga?Yin Yoga ParticularsThe Ideal Sequence of Asana for Yin YogaIn this fast-paced world, we are conditioned to want the most, the best… the greatest yield in the shortest time at the lowest cost, in whatever we do.Yin yoga is not any of that, at least on the surface. You won’t get a burn while practising yin yoga as you would with more dynamic styles. Indeed, you might wonder what yin yoga practitioners get out of holding the same pose for up to twenty minutes! And if such practitioners hardly move at all during their sessions, why would there be a sequence of movements to optimise its beneficial effects? If you have any experience practising yoga, you must know that its benefits are mostly internal. You won’t build amazing muscle mass no matter how many warrior poses you adopt. However, by practising yoga, you will develop a nice muscle tone and no one could be upset or frustrated with that.Where does yin yoga fit in, then? If you already have a yoga routine you are satisfied with, you may not see the need to also embrace yin yoga â€" in fact, many avid yoga practitioners aver they were not initially enthusiastic about practising yin yoga.A statement that begs the question: did they change their minds?Your Superprof now heads into the studio, unrolls their mat and divulges the secrets of yin yoga before taking you, pose by pose, through an ideal sequence. Yin yoga is a yoga practice that calls for bolsters and blocks Image by anja828 from PixabayHatha yoga, one of the most popular styles of yoga practised in the west, combines both of those themes, the net result being a solid mind-body connection, the effects of which can be both felt and seen almost immediately.Yin yoga delivers far subtler results. This type of yoga targets deep tissues such as joints, ligaments and fascia â€" the wafer-thin sheath around each of your muscles, for example. These connective tissues can become damaged when stressed or injured and, as our bodies age, they become less flexible. Many of yin yoga’s poses (asana) focus on those tissues surrounding your joints â€" in your hips, for example, and around your spine and especially the sacrum. You don’t have to be advanced in age or recovering from a traumatic injury to benefit from yin yoga; in fact, practising yin yoga before you notice any loss of flexibility would be ideal!Besides, if you are recovering fro m a serious injury, perhaps restorative yoga is the style you need right now…Yin Yoga ParticularsAs with every type of yoga, the focus for yin yoga is threefold: asanas â€" what we usually call poses, breath control or pranayama, and meditation. In yin yoga, meditation is perhaps more pertinent than for other types of yoga, in part because one holds positions for far longer than, say, in Ashtanga yoga or Bikram yoga. Also, while other types of yoga call for poses that range from standing â€" as in the tree pose or sun salutation poses to floor positions such as the lotus pose, yin yoga is all done at floor level. You might wonder where the challenge is; after all, the child’s pose is so comfortable and instinctive that holding it would hardly seem to be work at all!Yang yogas â€" the more active types of yoga, emphasise the depth of a move but yin yoga advocates for extending the length of time each pose is held rather than the intensity or depth of it.That is why yin yoga practiti oners have relatively few asanas in their session and hold each one for several minutes. If you happen to be observing a class of yin yoga practitioners, you may find some yogis going deeper into each pose. You should know that it is because they are just that well attuned to their body. They are not pushing themselves unduly and, if you are not yet comfortable with that depth of movement, you should hold off going deep until you are. Sitting cross-legged is the first of only a few yoga postures in yin yoga Image by Irina Logra from PixabayThe Comfortable EdgeThe essence of yin yoga is positioning yourself in such a way that you are aware of the part of your body targeted by the asana but the pose is not painful for you.  Finding the pain is not what yin yoga is about!A defining characteristic of yin yoga is finding the line between awareness of your body and pain at it being stressed. You should embrace the sensation of your hip loosening up but, if you start feeling painful twinges, that would be a sign that you need to ease back a bit. With that firmly in mind, let’s look at which asanas feature in yin yoga and how best to sequence them.Did you know that Iyengar yoga, Vinyasa yoga and power yoga all require the yoga teacher to create sequences but in Bikram yoga classes, the sequence is firmly set and followed in every class? The Ideal Sequence of Asana for Yin YogaYin yoga is best done with props so, if you hav e a block, make sure you place it within easy reach of your mat.If you don’t (yet) have any blocks, you may use a pillow or a folded blanket. No need to worry; we’ll indicate when you might want to use it!Seat yourself on your mat, tailor-style. If this position is not yet comfortable for you, you might sit on your block, pillow or blanket to take the stress off your hip joints. The session starts with a meditation of the breath: focus on breathing in and out. If you are new to yin yoga, you may find that counting your breaths will help focus your attention on them. After 1-3 minutes of focused breathing, move into the butterfly pose: the soles of your feet together, legs relaxed; no pressure on your hips. Lean forward, bringing your head as close to your ankles as possible. If needed, you may place your yoga block on your ankles to rest your head on it. If you are just beginning yoga, only hold this pose for one minute; less if you need to ease out of it.Next is the half-shoelace pose.Extend your right leg in front of you; bring your left leg over it, folding your calf back so that your foot points toward your hip. Lean forward as far as possible (if possible), using your block to rest your forehead on if needed.Hold the pose for only one minute, and then switch legs: your left leg is now extended and your right overlaps it, with your right foot pointed back. Again, lean forward, holding for only one minute. As you become more flexible, you may extend the time you hold each of these poses but, remember: at the first twinge of pain, ease off! Of all the yoga poses, this child's pose may be the best-known Image by StockSnap from PixabayContinuing to breathe deeply, assume the child’s pose but with a slight modification: instead of your arms reaching forward, position them so that your hands are close to your feet.As comfortable as this pose is, hold it for one minute before flowing into our next pose: the straddle.Torso straight up, legs spread as wide as possible. If you can, lower your torso over your right leg. Here too, you may use a block or bolster.Hold for a minute and then move into a centre straddle; head/torso bent forward. Finally, lower your head over your left leg.Relax, and then move into the classic child’s pose: arms extended in front of you.If you are in a beginners yoga class, your session may end there but, if you have been practising yin yoga for a while, you may add these asanas:the sphinx pose: elbows at 90 degrees, torso raised, hips and legs flat on the floorthe seal pose: from the sphinx positi on, push your hands into the mat and straighten your armsthe happy baby pose: it feels as delightful as it sounds! The reclined spinal twist: shoulders on the mat, twist your hips so that the inside of your right knee is laying on the left side of the mat.You may use a block to support your knee.savasana: lay supine, legs comfortably spread and arms relaxed along the body. You may choose your palms to rest comfortably either up or downRemember: if any of these asanas prove too strenuous for you, ease back to the point that you feel your body stretching but it is not painful to do so.As you become more flexible, you may prolong the time that you hold each position from one to three, even five minutes. After all, hold time is one of the principal tenets of yin yoga.To make it easier for you to get started, we’ve organised all of these poses into an easy-to-reference table for you to print, clip and position next to your yoga mat as a guide.Yin Yoga Asanas in Order:DescriptionPosetail or-fashion; focus on breathseatedsoles of feet together, knees as close to 90 degrees as possible; hands near your toes. How is the PLAN Scored

How is the PLAN Scored Consider the PLAN the PSAT for the ACT. Completed in 10th grade, the PLAN enables students to gain firsthand experience with the ACT. Test results range from 1 (lowest) to 32 (highest), with subsections in English and Mathematics marked from 1 to 16. Score reports include an estimated ACT result, as well as information about which skills are strengths and which are weaknesses. What is on the test? The test includes English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science portions. The English section addresses both Usage/Mechanics and Rhetorical Skills, while the Mathematics section focuses on Pre-Algebra through Geometry. The exam allows for 115 minutes for all four portions, and it involves only multiple-choice questions. How is it scored? Like the ACT, there is no penalty for guessing on the PLAN. The number of questions you answer correctly informs your final score. Keep in mind, however, that combined subscores (in English and Mathematics) do not necessarily equal section scores. Here is some great information on how the ACT is scored. What is on the score report? You will receive a score for each section, as well as an overall composite score that is an average of these four portions. Your results will also reflect all subsections. Beside each score is a chart that compares your results to other students who sat for the test at the same time. This chart represents the percentage of students who scored at or below your mark. As previously mentioned, the PLAN prepares you for future ACT testing. Based on your results, the PLAN predicts your likely score on the ACT if you complete the relevant high school courses and continue to achieve at the same level. These scores are sorely estimates, as you have not yet taken the ACT! If you are unhappy with the result the PLAN predicts, this is an excellent opportunity to begin improving your study habits, changing your focus in school, and perhaps seeking additional assistance through tutoring or in-school services. These are some great tips on how to improve your ACT scorethat you may find useful as well. On the reverse of your score report is a detailed list of the skills that were tested on the PLAN. You will also note suggestions to deepen content or skills based on questions you answered incorrectly. Utilize this page to understand where your strengths and weaknesses lie academically. For example, if you erred on all of the possessive pronoun questions, the score report will suggest that you review them. If you do not understand what something means, strike up a conversation with a tutor or teacher about the items you are struggling with in school.

5 Tips to Write a Great College Application Essay

5 Tips to Write a Great College Application Essay If youre the parent of a college-bound student, you know well all that goes into the college admissions process. From taking the SAT or ACT to the researching of colleges, theres a lot to do in a relatively short amount of time. But what about the application essay? If the college to which your teen is applying requires or strongly recommends that he or she write an essay, there are a number of things your teen can do to put his or her best foot forward, saysEileen Huntington ofHuntington Learning Center. Here are five tips: Put thought into choosing the right topic. Most colleges' essay prompts are open ended, as admissions officers generally hope that students will give good thought to selecting a topic that shows who they are and what they are capable of. Encourage your teen to be authentic and introspective, to think about what he or she is proud of and passionate about as well as life experiences that have required your teen to work harder, overcome setbacks or change. Remind your teen that the goal isn't to impress the college with a laundry list of achievements, but rather, to present oneself in a way that is different than what the admissions officer would find on a transcript. Follow the directions. The essay is your teen's chance to engage in thoughtful self-expression, but it isn't the place to ramble about why a college is your teen's dream school or explore tangents about his or her life or feelings. Remind your teen to carefully read and ponder the essay prompt given by the college. Don't disregard any instructions. If there's a word count, stick to it. If specific questions are asked, be sure your teen submits something that answers them. Create a detailed outline first. Rarely do words flow together to create a compelling essay without sufficient planning. Your teen must spend time creating an outline with a beginning, middle and ending. The outline should include good examples and clearly show how the essay will move from start to finish. Before your teen starts writing, have him or her review and edit the outline if needed. Are there gaps in the story? Is the main takeaway of the essay clear from the outline? Allow plenty of time for multiple drafts. It's understandable that your teen might be focused on preparing for the SAT or ACT and narrowing down colleges and universities of interest, but it's critical to allow time to craft a well-written essayand revise it. If an application is due January 1, a sample timeline might be creating the outline by November 1, first draft by November 10, second draft by November 20 and final draft in early December. This allows your teen time to set the essay aside for a couple of weeks and read it with fresh eyes (and proofread and fine-tune if necessary). Edit like a pro. Speaking of drafts, your teen might question the suggestion that an essay requires rewriting several times. Yes, it's true. A great essay takes writing, revising and revising again. Encourage your teen to do the obviousproofread for errors and edit wordy or confusing sectionsbut a great self-editor should ask questions while reviewing as well, such as: Does the essay hook the reader from the very start? Whats the point of the essay and did I capture it effectively? Is any part of the essay too long or too rushed? Is there a clear conflict that caused me to change in some specific way or take a new path? Did I achieve the desired tone for the essay (moving or humorous, for example)? Does the voice sound and feel like me? For each and every sentence, could I say it better or more clearly? The college application essay is the chance to show an admissions officer who your teen is as a student and a personbeyond his or her transcript and test scores. Its a personal statement that should come from the heart and share with the college to which your teen is applying why he or she would be a great fit as a student there. Your teen should be sincere and articulate and remember that a colleges goal in requesting supplemental essays from applicants is to give them the chance to tell the college something about themselves. This is a powerful opportunityencourage your teen to put his or her best foot forward.
